Don’t let Dominion give itself a pay raise
When Dominion Energy builds electric wires, transformers, and other grid infrastructure it passes on the cost of doing so to customers like you at a marked-up rate. This means the company is guaranteed a profit paid by its customers any time it builds something. Virginia’s State Corporation Commission has to review and approve the rate of return the monopoly utility receives.
But Dominion is not satisfied by its current mark-up. The company has asked the commissioners to set its rate of return even higher. This outrageous request comes two years after we learned the company overcharged us by more than $300 million at its current markup. Now Dominion is asking for more!
We know Dominion Energy uses its profits to lobby against customer-owned rooftop solar.
If the Commission grants this request, Dominion will be able to keep $1 for every $10 it spends. Solar supporters should be particularly alarmed.
We know Dominion Energy uses its profits to lobby against customer-owned rooftop solar. The company has successfully lobbied to place arbitrary limits on customer-owned solar, and fought to prohibit customers from leasing solar systems.
Dominion has also attacked solar rights by imposing system size limitations and caps for solar on private property. The proposed rate increase would help fund these anti-solar lobbying efforts and threaten our solar rights.
